Short answer: an escrow FiveM script keeps its core logic encrypted by the Cfx.re asset escrow and only runs on servers linked to the buyer's account, while config and bridge files stay editable. An open source script gives you every line of code to change. Escrow is cheaper and fine if you only want to configure, open source is worth it if your developers want to rewrite parts.

How the Cfx.re escrow works

When a developer uploads a resource to the Cfx.re Keymaster, selected files are encrypted. Your server decrypts them at runtime, but only if its license key belongs to the Cfx.re account that owns the asset. Files the developer leaves out of the escrow, usually config.lua, language files and integration files, stay readable and editable.

What open source means for a paid script
