How to add new items to a FiveM server without editing files
Short answer: you can add new items to a FiveM server without editing item files by hand by using an in-game item creator. You type a name, weight and description, drop in an image, and the script writes the item into the item list your inventory already uses and saves a 512 × 512 image into the right folder. The Goliath Item Creator does this for ox_inventory, qb-inventory and many others.
The usual way, and why it is slow
Normally every new item means opening the item list of your inventory, copying an entry, fixing the syntax, converting and resizing an image, uploading it to the image folder and restarting the server. One missing comma breaks the whole file. Food and drinks need extra scripting for props and animations.
Creating an item in game
1. Open the creator with /itemcreator.
2. Enter label, weight, category and description. The inventory name fills itself in and is checked against every existing item.
3. Drag and drop an image, pick a file or paste it with Ctrl+V. PNG, JPG and WebP are cropped, scaled to 512 × 512 and saved with a small file size. Background removal is included.
4. Optionally turn the item into food or a drink with props, animation, bite size, saturation and stress relief.
5. Save. ox_inventory and most other inventories load the item after the next restart, qb-core items go live right away.
Editing existing items
With the master permission, staff can change label, weight, description, shelf life and image of any existing item. Only the changed fields are written, the rest of the entry stays untouched. Files are written safely with a syntax check and a backup.
Questions
Can items expire?
Yes. Items can have a shelf life, and fridges keep food fresh.
Do I need an image editor?
No. Cropping, scaling, padding and background removal happen inside the creator.
Which inventories are supported?
The Item Creator writes into the item list of the inventory your server already runs, including ox_inventory and qb-inventory based inventories. The full list is on the product page.
